INTELLIGENT DRIVE SYSTEM FOR CELESTRONS
|
The NEW AWR SYSTEM provides state of the art performance for tracking, control, position
readout and PC interfacing. It is programmable by the user to fit onto new or existing scopes.
The system uses an Intelligent Drive Box to control all motor movements, readout and control
from the handset. It is fully portable requiring only a 12V DC power supply. It does not need
a computer, even to perform GOTOs. With a computer, the major Planetarium
programmes, such as 'THE SKY' or 'SKYMAP PRO' can issue GOTO commands or can track the
telescope.
HANDSET
|
- Position readout coordinates RA hh:mm:ss DEC +dd mm' ss'
or ALT-AZ
- Resolution of measured coordinates of the order of 20
arcseconds.
- Real Time Clock (battery backed) with crystal oven to
maintain a very low temperature coefficient.
- Sidereal and Universal time displays.
- User programming of rates used for GUIDE CENTRE MOVE
SLEW.
- Selection and programming of Sidereal, Solar, Lunar,
Track rates.
- Tracking resolution 0.005 arc second per second.
- Event timing function (100 events). Time recording
accuracy to 50ms.
- GOTO coordinate entered on keyboard using shortest
available route including tube reversal procedure for German Equatorials.
- User setup for telescope ratios (including FRICTION drive), 4 sites, time, date.
- Calibration on a single star.
- Second CAL for polar axis alignment
- Periodic error and backlash programming.
- Standard Autoguider input.
- Database (14000 objects) included in kits
- Object selections on magnitude, constellation and object type.
- Planetarium programmes can control handset.
- Operation in Northern or Southern hemisphere.

DRIVE BOX
The MICROSTEP Drive Box generates microstepping and powers large stepper motors which are
directly connected to slow motion axes. The FRGEN Drive Box generates two independent frequencies
that drive standard stepper motors fitted with gearboxes. Complete control of both of these
is by the Intelligent Handset. Adjustable acceleration and slew speed allows small telescopes
to slew up to 5 degrees per second. Normal sidereal rate step
sizes are in the range 0.8 arc second to 0.1 arc second depending on telescope configuration.
Standard fittings include autoguiding inputs and programmable output relay functions.
Similar systems have driven amateur telescopes up to 20" aperture.
COMPLETE SYSTEM comprises an Intelligent Handset, Drivebox, Motor leads, 3 metre handset
lead and Handbook. ACCESSORIES are available comprising Computer lead, Docking
Station, 12 Volt Power supply, robust Transit Case. |

EXTRA SPECIFICATIONS using DRIVE BOX FRGEN
This system specification is for driving the Celestron motors fitted
to the CI 700 mount. The drive box is the Universal Drivebox type. This is a
simple plug in replacement for the existing electronic drives.
- Main telescope reduction 180 tooth precision worm wheels
- Step size from motor 1 arc second
- RA / DEC encoder resolution 16 arc seconds
- SLEW rate adjustable to a maximum of 58x sidereal rate (0.24 degrees per second) driving a CM 1100
- Minimum TRACK rate 0.04 arc seconds per second
- SYSTEM POWER requirement maximum 1 amp at 12 volt DC
EXTRA SPECIFICATIONS using MICROSTEP
This system uses AWR high power Microstep motors replacing the Celestron motors
on the CI 700 mount. Timing belts are used to transfer the power from the
motor to the slow motion shaft. The drive box is the Microstep Drivebox type. This is
factory fitted and tested to provide state of the art performance.
- Main telescope reduction 180 tooth precision worm wheels
